Frequently Asked Questions

Interior Finishes

What is the difference between your interior finish options?

We offer three interior finish levels, each CNC-machined in our USA facility:

  • Cook Floor Machined — The bottom cooking surface (cook floor) is precision-machined smooth. The interior walls retain their traditional cast iron texture. This is our entry-level finish and a great balance of performance and value.
  • Fully Machined Interior — Both the cook floor and the interior walls are machined smooth. This delivers superior food release, faster seasoning buildup, and easier cleanup compared to a standard cast iron surface.
  • Fully Machined Interior & Exterior — Every surface is machined — cook floor, interior walls, and the exterior bottom. The skillet sits perfectly flat on any cooktop and represents the pinnacle of our craftsmanship.

Which finish should I choose?

If you're new to cast iron or want a great everyday skillet at an accessible price, the Cook Floor Machined is an excellent starting point. If you cook eggs, fish, or other delicate foods regularly, the Fully Machined Interior will reward you with noticeably better release and easier maintenance. The Fully Machined Interior & Exterior is for those who want the absolute best — a skillet that performs and looks like a precision instrument.

Does machining affect the durability of the skillet?

No. Machining removes surface texture but does not compromise the structural integrity of the iron. Our skillets are cast thick and built to last generations regardless of finish level.

Seasoning & Care

Do your skillets come pre-seasoned?

Yes. Every skillet ships pre-seasoned with 100% pure grapeseed oil and is ready to cook from day one.

How do I season my skillet?

Apply a very thin layer of a high smoke-point oil (grapeseed, flaxseed, or vegetable shortening) to all surfaces. Bake upside down at 450–500°F for one hour, then let it cool in the oven. Repeat 2–3 times for a strong initial seasoning base. Each cook after that continues to build the seasoning naturally.

How do I clean my cast iron skillet?

Rinse with hot water while the pan is still warm. Use a stiff brush or chainmail scrubber for stuck-on food. Avoid soaking in water or running through the dishwasher. Dry immediately and apply a light coat of oil before storing.

Can I use soap on cast iron?

A small amount of mild dish soap occasionally is fine and will not ruin your seasoning. Avoid harsh detergents or prolonged soaking.

Engraving & Personalization

Do you offer custom engraving?

Yes. We offer 3D CNC machined engraving on select skillets — logos, text, monograms, and custom designs. Our CNC-machined engravings are precision-cut directly into the iron for a permanent, heirloom-quality result. Engraved skillets make exceptional gifts and corporate awards. Visit our Engraving Inspiration page to see examples, or contact us for a custom quote.

How long does engraving take?

Custom engraved orders typically ship within 2–3 weeks. Expedited processing is available if you have a tighter deadline — contact us before placing your order to discuss options.

Can I submit my own logo?

Yes. We prefer artwork submitted as a PDF or high-resolution JPEG, black on white. Submit your file at checkout or via our contact form. Our design team will review and confirm your artwork before production begins.

Do you offer discounts on duplicate engraved skillets?

Yes. We offer great discounts when you order multiple skillets with the same design — ideal for corporate gifts, wedding parties, or bulk orders. Contact us before placing your order to get a quote.

Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy?

We stand behind every skillet we make. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we will work to make it right — exchange, store credit, or refund depending on the situation. Custom and engraved items are non-refundable unless there is a defect.

What does your warranty cover?

Our skillets are warranted against manufacturing defects for the life of the product. Normal wear, seasoning buildup, and cosmetic changes from use are not covered. Cast iron that has been cracked due to thermal shock (e.g., placing a hot skillet in cold water) is not covered under warranty.

Materials & Safety

What is AB 1200?

California's AB 1200 law requires cookware manufacturers to disclose the chemicals used in cookware coatings and materials. Our skillets are made from raw cast iron and seasoned with 100% pure grapeseed oil — no synthetic coatings, no PFAS, no PTFE. Full disclosure information is available on our AB 1200 Disclosure page.

Is your cookware free of PFAS and Teflon?

Yes. Legacy Cast Iron skillets contain no synthetic coatings of any kind. The non-stick properties develop naturally through seasoning with oil — the same way cast iron has been used for generations.

Is cast iron safe for induction cooktops?

Yes. All Legacy Cast Iron skillets are compatible with induction, gas, electric, and ceramic cooktops, as well as oven and open-flame cooking.
